Certification for client protection (CP) is a crucial tool for responsible inclusive finance, providing an independent, in-depth verification that a financial service provider (FSP) has full intent, policies and effective systems to adhere to the Client Protection Standards.

Having contributed to the development of global standards for client protection since 2005, M-CRIL was accredited as a CP certifying body by the Smart Campaign from 2013 to 2020 and by Cerise+ SPTF from 2020 to March 2024.

From April 2024, as before, the CP Certifications undertaken by M-CRIL will follow the Client Protection Standards framework approved by Cerise+SPTF and M-CRIL will conduct validation in alignment with the guidelines.

This framework provides a tiered approach to certification, enabling financial service providers to build their client protection systems incrementally, and publicly demonstrate good practice as they move towards full compliance. Certifications by M-CRIL at intermediate levels Bronze, Silver or Gold Certifications will continue.
