Mr Sanjay Sinha, Managing Director
Mr Sanjay Sinha is an alumnus of Oxford University and holds an M.Phil. in Economics
from Jesus College, Oxford University. He has 30 years of economic and development
research experience in South and Southeast Asia. He has specialized in sub-sector
analysis of activities of relevance to the livelihoods of poor people, microenterprise
promotion and BDS in addition to microfinance. He is co-founder of EDA Rural Systems
Private Limited, one of the leading development consultancies in Asia and parent
company of M-CRIL. The establishment of M-CRIL emerged out of EDA’s experience with
MFIs and from undertaking policy studies in the field of microfinance. He pioneered
the development of credit rating framework for MFIs and has been instrumental in
mainstreaming credit rating and flow of commercial funds to the sector. He has provided
consultancy to international organizations like UNDP, ADB & ILO, authored numerous
sector reports during his career and has published extensively in major journals
as well as in the print media. Acknowledging his achievements and contribution to
the sector, Sanjay Sinha was inducted as a Member of the UN Advisors Group on Inclusive
Financial Sectors.

Dr Alok Misra, Director
Alok holds a doctorate in Development Studies from Victoria University, New Zealand
and a Master in Development Management from Asian Institute of Management, Manila,
where he was an ADB scholar. He has 18 years of rich professional experience in
rural development, finance and research at both policy and implementation level.
His professional work with India’s Apex Development Bank (NABARD) spans poverty
alleviation, microfinance and agricultural finance. Alok was an integral part of
the multi institutional task force that set up India’s first online commodities
exchange in 2003. Alok has gained wide ranging experience by working with institutions
in both developed and developing countries such as India, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan,
Morocco, New Zealand, Philippines and Vietnam. He is a member of the Expert Group
constituted by the Planning Commission on “Issues relating to promotion of an independent
national level Self-Regulatory Agency and Accreditation methodologies for the voluntary
sector”.
In addition to the Managing Director and Director, the M-CRIL team consists of four
Senior Rating Analysts and six Analysts. M-CRIL’s rating team has substantial capacity
and the best available qualifications in the field of financial analysis and development.
The rating team professionals have studied at India’s premier institutes like Institute
of Rural Management, ANAND (IRMA), Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM),
Bhopal, Xaviers Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) and Tata Institute of
Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. With such diversity, our team provides a unique
blend of financial and social skill sets.
